LOVING CEMENT TILES (ENCAUSTIC TILES)
I have been sourcing out tile for a design and I keep coming back to these beautiful detailed tiles. Cement tiles, also known as Encaustic tiles or Portuguese tiles have a long history and they are noted for their multi-color patterns, durability and sophisticated look. Mostly used as flooring or wall tile these beautiful pieces of art can enhance any décor.
The technique on how to produce these intricate tiles was brought to the south of Europe many centuries ago from the Moors in Northern Africa and the Spanish and Portuguese merchants then introduced them to the rest of the world. Unlike ceramic tiles, which are usually glazed and fired, decorative cement tiles are made by first pouring a mixture of cement and color pigment into separate compartments in a metal mold. Companies still use this hand made technique today to and you can have them custom made to your colour specifications.
Here are some gorgeous rooms showcasing these beautiful tiles
These ones are a little more traditional with their bright colours in a patchwork pattern.
And I saved my favorite till last. I love this bathroom it’s so gorgeous with the soft gray countertop that is repeated in the tiles. And lets not overlook the mixed metals! Drool!
If the pattern scares you then try them in a small powder room or mud room.
What do you think? Would you use these tiles in your home?
If you would like some help making
